FOSTER CARE TRAINING 2009 – 2010
Hi All,

The budget for this year’s training has now been agreed and we are in the process of finalising details of the courses available, particulars of which will be released very soon.

There will be a number of courses available which will help carers towards meeting the standards required for the CWDC portfolio. In addition to these we are hoping to offer courses on more specialised subjects, the contents of which will be sent out separately. There is an agreement for a further 15 places to be available for those carers who would like to complete the NVQ level 3 in ‘Caring for Children and Young People’ and 2 places available for carers interested in undertaking the BTEC in ‘Advanced Skills in Foster Care’. Anyone interested in either of these two courses should, in the first instance, speak to their Link-worker.

Foster Carers are required to attend two training courses annually; these can be either via external or internal providers. It is now a mandatory requirement that all approved carers hold a valid First Aid certificate. Certificates are valid for 3 years, and will need renewing once they have expired. With over 500 approved foster carers we fully expect that many of the courses will be filled up quickly, and that demand will outweigh supply. With this in mind it is essential that your training needs should be identified by yourself in conjunction with your Link worker as courses that will best help to enhance your knowledge and be best suited to further develop your fostering skills.

Application for all courses will be via Susanne Poole @ BFCA. Susanne will register your interest and send out the application form which will then have to be agreed and signed by your link-worker. This process will help towards gauging future training needs and monitoring attendance. Lunch will be provided to all course attendees. A crèche will also be provided at all venues however it is imperative that we have the details, before the commencement of each course, of the ages, gender and any specific medical needs of each child using the facility. This is so we can comply with current Health & Safety regulations.

If you have any questions with regard to any of the above please do not hesitate to contact me on 0121 303 8400.

Kind regards,

Kim Roden
